Delete Your Data
Last updated: September 8, 2026
Better Bookshelf stores your library on your device. Online scan accounts and purchase records are separate from your local library.
Delete your scan account
In Better Bookshelf version 1.8.0 or later, open Backup & Restore → Scan account → Delete scan account. Review the warning and confirm. Scanning stops immediately, and account and provider cleanup completes within 30 days. Return to Scan account to check completion.
You can also request account deletion without the app by emailing books@betterbookshelf.co with the subject “Better Bookshelf account deletion.” We will help verify which account belongs to you before deleting it. Do not send passwords, full payment details or recovery codes.
Deletion removes your server-held scan results, account credentials, recovery access, credit history and associated provider records. Unused scan credits are forfeited. Your local library, saved shelf photos and personal Google Drive backups are not deleted. Your Unlimited library purchase can still be restored, but deleted scan credits are not granted again.
One-way purchase and customer fingerprints are retained to prevent duplicate credit grants and late purchase notifications from recreating deleted data. Protected service backups rotate within seven days. Apple and Google retain their own transaction records under their policies.
To delete local library data
Uninstalling removes local app storage, but secure credentials may survive on some devices. It does not delete server-side scan accounts, purchase records or external backups. (On Android you can also use Settings → Apps → Better Bookshelf → Storage → Clear data.)
Google Drive backups
If you enabled backups, copies of your library live in your own Google Drive under the app's folder. Delete them at drive.google.com (the app can only access files it created). Revoking the app's Drive access at myaccount.google.com/permissions also prevents any future access.
Purchases
Apple and Google hold purchase records under their own policies. RevenueCat and our scan service associate purchases with customer identifiers to verify access and maintain scan balances. Those records do not become anonymous or disappear when you uninstall the app. Contact us to request deletion of server-held information.
